The Spanish Bank of Algae (BEA) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) is a national service of R+D+i managed by the Scientific and Technological Park Foundation of the ULPGC. The basic objectives of BEA are the isolation, identification, characterization, preservation and supply of microalgae and cyanobacteria.

The Spanish Type Culture Collection (CECT) is the only public Microbial Resource Center (mBRC) in Spain and acts as a depository and supplier of bacteria, archaea, yeasts and filamentous fungi. It is housed in the facilities of the University of Valencia where it became a service (1991) fulfilling the requirements as the International Authority for the Deposit of microorganisms for patent purposes according to the Budapest Treaty (IDA, 1992).

The Food Agrochemistry and Technology Institute (IATA) is a research center of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). Its scientific-technical objective is to carry out research of excellence on the production of quality food in a sustainable way, its safety, impact on health and acceptance by the consumer.
