The Spanish Bank of Algae (BEA) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) is a national service of R+D+i managed by the Scientific and Technological Park Foundation of the ULPGC. The basic objectives of BEA are the isolation, identification, characterization, preservation and supply of microalgae and cyanobacteria.

The Spanish Type Culture Collection (CECT) is the only public Microbial Resource Center (mBRC) in Spain and acts as a depository and supplier of bacteria, archaea, yeasts and filamentous fungi. It is housed in the facilities of the University of Valencia where it became a service (1991) fulfilling the requirements as the International Authority for the Deposit of microorganisms for patent purposes according to the Budapest Treaty (IDA, 1992).

The Institute of Research in Food Sciences (CIAL) is a mixed center of shared ownership between the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). The CIAL has had the purpose of becoming an international research center, a leader in the field of food sciences, the promotion of technological development and the creation of wealth and well-being for society.

The National Center for Technology and Food Safety (CNTA) is a private non-profit association. It is a technological center that aims to be a national reference and to contribute to the improvement of the competitiveness and quality of the food sector. It develops two types of activity: knowledge acquisition and technology transfer through: R&D projects, technological services and training.

The Food Agrochemistry and Technology Institute (IATA) is a research center of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). Its scientific-technical objective is to carry out research of excellence on the production of quality food in a sustainable way, its safety, impact on health and acceptance by the consumer. IATA research can be grouped into the following lines of research: innovation in food and processes, food safety and preservation, diet, microbiota and health, and food biotechnology.

The National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA) is attached to the Secretary of State for Universities, Research, Development and Innovation of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MCIU). The Secretary General of Coordination of Scientific Policy is the President of INIA. As a Public Research Agency, it is responsible for the coordination of research in the field of agrifood R&D at the state level, as well as for the execution of research projects, in close collaboration with the corresponding socio-economic sectors.

The Institute of Dairy Products of Asturias (IPLA) belongs to the Area of Food Science and Technology of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). The mission of the IPLA is the generation of knowledge through quality scientific research in Science and Technology of Dairy Products in order to promote and / or improve the health and well-being of consumers, the competitiveness of the CSIC in the food and agriculture sector and the transmission of knowledge to society and the productive sector.

The Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) is a research institute of the Generalitat of Catalonia, attached to the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food. Its general objectives are to promote research and technological development in the agrifood field, facilitate the transfer of scientific advances and assess the technological advances themselves seeking maximum coordination and collaboration with the public and private sector.
