All this under the framework of sustainable exploitation of the biodiversity of microalgae and cyanobacteria based on the fair and equitable distribution of benefits (ABS) derived from genetic resources, in accordance with the Nagoya Protocol and the provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

Brief historical review

In 1995 the collection was established in the ULPGC, acquiring the IDA status in 2005. In 2010 the BEA-GGReina was consolidated, which facilitates access to these genetic resources of the Macaronesian region, with biotechnological and industrial potential.
