MIRRI wins the Landmark status on the European roadmap<br>of research infrastructures

Braga (Portugal), 07 December 2021 – The Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure (MIRRI), a panEuropean research infrastructure that brings together over 50 scientific institutions, from 11 countries, has been awarded with the “Landmark” status on the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) Roadmap 2021, which lists leading European research infrastructures in several scientific domains.
MIRRI has integrated the ESFRI Roadmap since 2010, holding the “Project” status, and presently being placed on its “Health & Food” domain. As other research infrastructures, MIRRI experienced a period of incubation for advancing its implementation and reaching the operational phase. The results of this work have now been on the basis for ESFRI’s decision to award MIRRI with the “Landmark” status.
According to the Executive Director of MIRRI, Luís Soares “MIRRI is very pleased and proud for being recognised as a Landmark on the ESFRI Roadmap, since this rewards the work of all MIRRI partner organisations and their staff, for some years now, on making MIRRI a fully-operational, long-term sustainable research infrastructure”. Marleen Bosschaerts, Chair of MIRRI’s Assembly of Prospective Members adds that “winning the ‘Landmark’ status cannot be seen as an end on itself, but as another important milestone towards making MIRRI a reference actor in the European Research Area. The next step, which we hope to be happening soon, is to obtain the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) status”.
